Online Communities
The best decision I made with regard to my quit was joining an online community. I chose livestrong.com because they had an app that was very easy for me to use. If I was struggling, lonely, frustrated, angry, and craving (yes, some days I experienced all of that in the same instant), I could go online and there would be people willing to help with tough love and encouragement. They became my "pocket people" and helped me get through the tough emotions that come with quitting.
There are a ton of online communities you can join, some better than others. The website whyquit.com has an online community, as well, but in order to join, you must be quitting cold turkey, without the assistance of NRTs (nicotine replacement therapies).
Of course, do not underestimate the support of your friends and family. My biggest mistake in the past was not telling anyone about my quit. I thought I was strong enough to do it on my own; I was not. This time, I told everyone I know about my quit. I posted it on Facebook, along with status updates about my progress. I refused to keep it to myself. As each day progressed, it became more and more important for me to share my experiences.
Please let me know if you have any other online communities for quitting. I would love to be able to keep a running list on this blog.
